Affiliate Disclosure
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
We're being upfront about this because we think you deserve to know how a site that gives away its reviews for free keeps the lights on. That's it: no adverts, no paywall, no sponsored posts. Just affiliate links.
How It Works
Where a product we recommend can be bought through an affiliate programme, we use a tracked link. That link tells the retailer or network that a visitor came from PawPicks, and if you buy within a qualifying window we receive a referral fee. We're rolling these tracked links out progressively, so at any given time some product links on the site may be plain, untracked links while a programme is still being set up.
We only ever earn if you choose to buy. We never charge you, and we can't see who you are — just that a sale came from PawPicks.
Programmes We Use
Rather than relying on a single retailer, we use a mix of affiliate programmes and are adding them gradually:
- Brand-direct and ambassador programmes. Some pet food brands, such as Butternut Box, run their own referral schemes that pay a flat fee for each successful new customer rather than a percentage of the basket.
- Affiliate networks. We use networks such as Awin to link to brands including Purina, AATU, Pooch & Mutt, Barking Heads and Pure Pet Food. Commission here is usually a modest percentage of the sale, and it varies by brand.
- Amazon Associates UK. As a general fallback, where a product is most easily bought on Amazon, we may use an Amazon Associates link. Commission in the pet category is typically in the region of 3–5% of the sale price. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
These figures are broad guides, not promises — the exact rate depends on the brand, the programme and the product. Referral programmes pay a flat fee per successful referral; percentage programmes pay a small share of what you spend.
What This Means for Our Reviews
Our editorial decisions are completely independent of affiliate commissions. We don't:
- Rank products higher because they have higher commission rates
- Accept payment from brands for positive coverage
- Accept free products in exchange for guaranteed positive reviews
- Change our ratings or recommendations based on commercial relationships
Products are ranked on their actual merit — meat content, ingredient quality, nutritional value, and value for money. If the best-value pick pays us a lower commission than a premium competitor, we still put it in the top spot.
We believe transparency here matters. If you distrust our objectivity, that's entirely reasonable — we'd encourage you to read the ingredient labels yourself and form your own view. We'll always tell you what to look for so you can do exactly that.
Cookies and Tracking
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer or network may set cookies on your device to record that the visit came from PawPicks. PawPicks itself does not set any first-party cookies — we have no analytics, no tracking pixels, and no advertising on this site. See our Privacy Policy for more detail.
Compliance
We label affiliate links clearly and aim to comply with the current UK rules on affiliate marketing and endorsements, including:
- The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCC), which governs how businesses must disclose commercial relationships to consumers
- Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) guidance on online reviews and endorsements
- Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and CAP Code rules on affiliate marketing
Our aim is simple: you should never be in any doubt about when a link could earn us a commission, and that possibility should never colour what we tell you about a product.
Pet Insurance Content
PawPicks (pawpicks.co.uk) is an independent editorial website run to help dog owners make informed choices. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and we do not arrange, advise on, or sell insurance of any kind. Any insurance-related pages we publish — such as our guide to how dog insurance works and our dog insurance terms glossary — are provided for general information only. If we ever carry links to insurers, they are plain referral links: the entire quote-and-purchase journey happens on the insurer's own FCA-regulated website, not here. Nothing we publish is a personal recommendation or financial advice, and we hold no relationship with any insurer. If you need advice about a policy, please speak to an FCA-authorised insurance broker. You can reach us with any questions at hello@pawpicks.co.uk.
If you have any questions about our affiliate relationships, contact us at hello@pawpicks.co.uk.
